In the last blog I already give you a question,
Why do I still working as a programmer even though I don't want this job in the first place and it's almost 2.5 half years ?
If you don't catch up you can read check out my blog "The Journey Starts Today", it only takes 3 minutes to read it.
Okay, before I tell you the reason, have you ever wondering
Why successful people always say. "set the goal, priority, habits, etc" ?
what makes them special? is it because of healthy food? yeah, random things always running in my head when I'm daydreaming 🤪, but if you do, then I'm not alone. you can tell me your question in the comment section.
Background
I see myself as a right-brain person (creative person), I like drawing, singing, dancing, but I never take a step to focus on these things.— I have had a dream to make a game since I was a child, started playing video games since I was 8. So I take Game Application and Technology major (Game Development major) but it's under the School of Computer Science (SoCS) faculty for my undergraduate's degree.
From here you already see the branched way of my background and mindset, can you? Creative vs Logic
First, I blame myself because, it's my part that I don't realize that this major under SoCS faculty, the happiness about Indonesia has a game major in the university, make me blind to everything behind it.
I know to make a game, It needs a creative person(designer and artist) and a logical person (programmer), so I think this major has some kind of specific major for the student who wants to be a designer or artist. they can focus to learn and graduate to be ready in the industry.
Sad fact it's not happening, I learn so little about game design and I'm not ready to be one of the game designers in the industry.
Second, I blame the University, but I can't because it's under SoCS faculty, it's a normal thing that we learn to be a programmer.
For students which graduate from the School of Computer Science, it's a common thing to work as a programmer, it's the rule of this world right? we learn as a programmer then work as a programmer. the first choices you can take.
In the first 2 years, I learn algorithms, C, C#, C++, HTML, JAVA, PHP, and everyday learning these things make me hate it so much, I don't understand the why behind the code. why even these things matter in the first place. I give up and I only give my best for the theory so I can at least get a good GPA to graduate and get the title as S.Kom.

In my third year, eventually, I got a chance to have an internship at Apple Developer Academy (ADA) Program, or I called it to study abroad because I get a scholarship from Apple and work as a student in this program. Everything in this program the learning methodology, the head of the school, the mac, facilities, it's all from Apple. The way we learn in this program is different from all of my learning experiences.
One thing that changes my mindset from Closed Minded to Open Minded people is the Growth Mindset. The miracle happens to me in this program because I change my mindset.
What is a Growth Mindset?
Individuals who believe their talents can be developed (through hard work, good strategies, and input from others) have a growth mindset.
check this link for more.
So I started to learn Swift language in a way that makes sense to me, and luckily I have a bunch of good mentors in the program that eager to make the student understand what they are learning, so I explore my talent there, I learn UI/UX, Business, Programming. I learn the way to make an application that can give an impact on greater things. After 1 year I finished my thesis parallel with the ADA Program, so I can graduate as a SoCS student.
so the answer to the two questions above How do I survive working as a programmer for 2.5 half-year, and Why success people always say, set goals, set habits, set priorities.
It's All About Mindset.
I open my mindset that programming is not that hard if I want to open my mind with a new kind of perspective, I have eager to grow with my skills and keep trying to give the best results. So I can keep growing, that I become better of myself every day in programming.
And in this IOS Lead Essential Course, the main mindset that always repeatedly said is
Learn, Execute, Practice
It's all about mindset. if you want to be better. keep the Growth Mindset and keep growing from the bad version of yourself.
Thanks to Apple Developer Academy that change my mindset. If you want to join the program, check out this website for the next cohort info.
Feel free to comment in what do you think about my journey to change my mindset. Thanks.
